Minecraft 作者 Notch氏が、新しく開発しているゲーム” Scrolls “の名前に関して、Bethesda から訴えられるかもしれないという話を前にお知らせしたが、今回は” Scrolls “の名前を賭けてBethesda と Q3A デスマッチ勝負を Notch ブログにて提案している。

The only negative thing going on at this moment is the Scrolls trademark lawsuit nonsense, and I think I came up with the perfect solution:

Remember that scene in Game of Thrones where Tyrion chose a trial by battle in the Eyrie? Well, let’s do that instead!
I challenge Bethesda to a game of Quake 3. Three of our best warriors against three of your best warriors. We select one level, you select the other, we randomize the order. 20 minute matches, highest total frag count per team across both levels wins.

If we win, you drop the lawsuit.

If you win, we will change the name of Scrolls to something you’re fine with.

解決方法がパーフェクトすぎて、流石にこれは Bethesda も思いつかないわ。Notch の対応を見ていると、基本的におちゃめな感じでどこか憎めない感じがする。

基本的には Notch 側は譲歩しているような情報も

Bethesda 側が ” Scrolls ” のタイトル変更か訴訟かを迫ったことに対して、Notch 氏はそもそもタイトルの一部に含まれた一般的な語について権利を主張できると考えるほうがおかしい、まったく別種のゲームであり消費者が勘違いする可能性は低い、Mojang 側も ” Scrolls ” で商標登録を申請している (ベセスダの弁護士はこれで気付いたらしい)と主張しています。また妥協案として、Scrolls が発売されても、続編や拡張パックのタイトルでも、タイトルの前に ” xx Scrolls ” と付けず ” Scrolls ～ “とすることを約束する、またパッケージなどに The Elder ～ とは無関係であることを明記してもよいと語っていました。
