Minecraft を作っているデベロッパー Mojang の新作 Scrolls のトレイラーが公開された。カードベースストラテジーゲームのゲームらしいが、それ以前に Bethesda と揉めているという話がでたりと何かと話題にはなっている。

Minecraft 作者 Notch氏が、新しく開発しているゲーム” Scrolls “の名前に関して、Bethesda から訴えられるかもしれないという話を前にお知らせしたが、今回は” Scrolls “の名前を賭けてBethesda と Q3A デスマッチ勝負を Notch ブログにて提案している。

Remember that scene in Game of Thrones where Tyrion chose a trial by battle in the Eyrie? Well, let’s do that instead!
I challenge Bethesda to a game of Quake 3. Three of our best warriors against three of your best warriors. We select one level, you select the other, we randomize the order. 20 minute matches, highest total frag count per team across both levels wins.

If we win, you drop the lawsuit.

If you win, we will change the name of Scrolls to something you’re fine with.

解決方法がパーフェクトすぎて、流石にこれは Bethesda も思いつかないわ。Notch の対応を見ていると、基本的におちゃめな感じでどこか憎めない感じがする。

基本的には Notch 側は譲歩しているような情報も

Bethesda 側が ” Scrolls ” のタイトル変更か訴訟かを迫ったことに対して、Notch 氏はそもそもタイトルの一部に含まれた一般的な語について権利を主張できると考えるほうがおかしい、まったく別種のゲームであり消費者が勘違いする可能性は低い、Mojang 側も ” Scrolls ” で商標登録を申請している (ベセスダの弁護士はこれで気付いたらしい)と主張しています。また妥協案として、Scrolls が発売されても、続編や拡張パックのタイトルでも、タイトルの前に ” xx Scrolls ” と付けず ” Scrolls ～ “とすることを約束する、またパッケージなどに The Elder ～ とは無関係であることを明記してもよいと語っていました。

Today, I got a 15 page letter from some Swedish lawyer firm, saying they demand us to stop using the … Notch 氏のブログによると scrolls （少し前から Notch が作っているカードゲーム風の新作）のタイトルの関係で Bethesda に訴えられそうという話が出ていた。Bethesda は The Elder Scrolls のシリーズで有名な会社であり2011/11/11 の1が6個並ぶ日に合わせて新作の Skyrim を発表する予定になっている。この Elder Scrolls と Mojang の Scrolls の名前が似ているという辺りが問題のようだ。実は Minecraft の正規版が 2011/11/11 に予定されているのは、発売日を発表して世間を騒がしていた Skyrim のパロディ的な面があり Notch 氏の Blog でもその様子をおちゃめに書き込んでいたという経緯もある。

送られてきたとされる 15 ページに渡る文書。ちなみに個人的には Skyrim も凄く期待します。Skryim の前作に当たる Oblivion も購入して遊んでますが、ここ5年以内の RPG としては頭一つ抜けているんではないかと思う程の傑作でした。少し前に Steam でパッケージが12ドルという激安販売されてましたが、Steam 版だと Mod が追加しにくいので日本語版か、輸入盤、または普通にインストールできるダウンロード販売の場所を探した方がゲームは楽しめると思います。Skyrim も Steam で既に予約できますが Mod の関係上あまりお勧めできないかも。
